5 Weird And Wonderful Places To Go In The UK In A Campervan

You don’t have to travel far and wide to find weird and wonderful places in the world. There are lots of quirky places to visit in the UK, from rural and remote spots, to downright strange days out.

Hiring a campervan is undoubtedly the best way to discover all of these hidden gems, as campervan holidays allow you to enjoy your getaway at your own pace and wake up each morning with complete freedom of where to go and what to do.

Here are Bunk’s favourite five weird places to visit around the UK…

Number 1 – Forbidden Corner

Unlock the secrets of Forbidden Corner, self-proclaimed as the ‘strangest place in the world’. A maze of clues, tunnels and chambers with plenty to shock and surprise, Forbidden Corner is a fantastic day out for all ages, and is great for family fun in the Yorkshire Dales. Admission is by pre-booked tickets only though, so make sure you plan ahead if passing through Yorkshire anytime soon.

Number 2 – Cheddar Gorge

Be blown away by the Britain’s biggest gorge as you take in the spectacular views and enjoy outdoor activities as you learn about the history of this incredible place. Not only is Cheddar Gorge a great spot for a picnic and a walk, you can also try adventure caving and rock climbing during your visit to Somerset. Great for young geographers and keen walkers.

Number 3 – Northern Lights

You don’t need an expensive trip to Northern Europe to see this awesome phenomenon. In the right conditions on a clear night, you can see the Northern Lights in the uppermost regions of the UK. Most commonly seen in late autumn and early spring, head to the top of bonny Scotland to be in for a chance of seeing these pretty lights.

Number 4 – The Garlic Festival

Yes, that’s right! This smelly bulb of tasty joy has its very own festival ever year in the Isle of Wight. The Garlic Festival is a quirky event where you can sample everything from garlic puree to garlic beer, but be careful you might need to brush your teeth after! If you aren’t planning to visit during the festival, The Garlic Farm is open throughout the year for visitors, and is a fun addition to the itinerary for Isle of Wight and UK campervan holidays on this sunny island.

Number 5 – The Secret Bunker

Teach your children about the terrors of the Cold War with an interactive and educational experience in The Secret Bunker, Essex. Set up to be the undercover headquarters of the government in case of nuclear emergency, today the centre is a fun and hand-on place to learn some history whilst having a great family day out.
