Campervan hire short break ideas for UK & Ireland in 2022

Campervan hire in Ireland along the wild Atlantic way

A campervan hire holiday doesn’t have to be a long adventure. We love getting away for those quick power-charging holidays. Sometimes the challenge is knowing or deciding where to go.

When you look at a map, it can be quite daunting, but that’s the beauty of driving a motorhome, as soon as you are packed up and, on the road, the adventure has begun, so whether you drive for 500 miles or 200 miles, it doesn’t really matter, what does, is just getting away and doing something that you want.

As Spring turns to Summer, the extra daylight is very welcome and adds extra hours of daylight at the start and end of the day which really makes a difference when camping of any kind. So this is the perfect time to get out and about on a short trip. Friday to Monday is the perfect time, avoid traffic queues and make the most of the weekend (four-day working weeks are also the best!).

Our advice is: pack up the warm clothes, the waterproofs, the bikes, the dog and just go!

Here are some helpful tips on the direction you might want to head from each of the Bunk Campers locations as you embark on your short break.

From London

Discover Cornwall in a hired motorhome

Our London Heathrow branch is perfectly located in the west so you can avoid the congestion of London and be in your own piece of paradise in 1-2 hours. The magical woods of the New Forest in Hampshire, the rolling countryside of Wiltshire, the historic Stone Henge and the White Horse, or the Dorset coast. However you like to spend your downtime, England has got you covered.

One of our favourite road trips to take is from London to the Surrey Hills. These are nearby to London if you don’t fancy a particularly long drive after picking up your van from our London Depot. Surrey Hills is a simply outstanding area of natural beauty for you to fall in love with.

With remarkable views, nature reserves and backdrops from infamous films such as Bridget Jones, it’s a must-see destination for a campervan hire holiday.

From Edinburgh

touring the Scottish Highlands in motorhome

In 2-3 hours, you can be in many places, head Northeast towards Aviemore and the spectacular Cairngorm Mountains, or Northwest will take you to Fort William and the gateway to the Isla of Skye, but don’t forget that just an hour’s drive south will take you into the stunning Scottish Borders, with rolling hills and quaint villages. Cross the border into Northumberland or of course venture to the Lake District. So many options you may need several long weekends!

From Belfast

There aren’t too many places in Northern Ireland that you can’t get to within 2 hours from campervan hire, in fact, you can cover the whole country in a weekend, but why rush? Spend less time driving and more exploring, from the Mountains of Mourne to the North Antrim Coast, to Londonderry/Derry crossing into Donegal, or why not venture inland to the spectacular Enniskillen lakes. Co Down also has spectacular coastal routes to explore, Strangford Lough, Killyleagh and Ardglass are steeped in history and offer unique visitor experiences. Northern Ireland offers it all. Not least great walks and of course super golf courses!

From Dublin

Wild Atlantic Way stop off in Sligo during a campervan holiday

There’s a lot packed into the small island of Ireland, with so many spectacular places to visit. A short break is best to focus on one city or county. We are particularly fond of the coastal route to Cork, passing through stunning Wexford and Waterford perhaps ending in Kinsale. Make it a varied round trip by travelling back inland through Kilkenny or even Tipperary (it’s not that long away anymore from Dublin!)
