Drive Along the Copper Coast

The Copper Coast is a gem of the Southeast. It’s not as popular as the Wild Atlantic Way and many people often miss this on their visit to Waterford, but it’s one of the most beautiful drives in Ireland. It begins in Tramore and continues to Dungarvan for over 40km. You can drive along the sea in your campervan hire in Waterford for most of the way and discover endless picturesque beaches. There are also several viewpoints where you can enjoy the views of the sea and admire the rugged cliffs. Some of the best stops along the drive include Garrarus Beach, Kilfarrassy Beach, Dunhill Castle and Boatstrand.

Stroll Around the Charming Village of Dunmore East

Dunmore East is a tiny fishing village with some beautiful beaches where many families come on holiday. The atmosphere in the summer months is amazing as kids enjoy the Dunmore East Adventure Centre and many locals take their boats out to the water. There are lots of places to eat and enjoy a pint overlooking the bay. On a clear day, you can also see Hook Head in Co. Wicklow as you enjoy your dinner in the Strand Inn Seafood Restaurant.

Visit the Beach Town of Tramore

Tramore is a popular holiday destination for families, couples and friends and there are lots of caravan parks here. The town has many great cafes like the Vee Bistro, Mezze and Molly’s, where you can enjoy amazing food and coffee. There is a long stretch of beach that is easily accessible from many parts of the town. Many locals swim here both in summer and winter. From the beach, you can see Brownstown Head and sometimes, you’ll even see several kite surfers. The best view of Tramore Bay is from the Doneraile Walk which is just 1km long and located near Church Road.

Walk Along the Cliffs in Ardmore

The Ardmore Cliff Walk is 4 kilometres long and boasts beautiful views of the sea and the cliffs of the Copper Coast. There’s very limited parking on a narrow street, so it could be wise to park in Ardmore and walk up to the starting point. You’ll find many beautiful sites along the walk including St. Declan’s Well, the ‘Lookout’ and the ‘Castle’. You will also pass a shipwreck known as Sampson where you’ll find many seagulls resting. It has been here since 1988. It makes for some beautiful photos.

You might have heard of Coumshingaun Lough – the most popular hike in Waterford, but have you heard of the Nire Valley? It’s the hidden gem of Waterford. A beautiful valley with a variety of walks to beautiful lakes nestled in the mountains. There are four trails you can follow – the Coumduala Loop (7.9km), the Coumlara Loop (6.5km), the Gap Walk (6km) and the Sgilloges Walk (7.1km). The hikes range from moderate to strenuous, therefore you should check this information prior to setting out into the valley.

Explore Mahon Falls

Nested in the Comeraghs with a beautiful drive leading up to it, you will find Mahon Falls. A beautiful 80-metre-high waterfall falls over sandstone cliffs. A short walk from the parking area will bring you up close to the water, where you can climb alongside the falls and enjoy exceptional views of county Waterford. The grass and the rocks can be very slippery, so please take caution.
