Game of Thrones – The 7 Day Driving Route in Northern Ireland

Explore Game of Thrones® Filming Locations on a 7 day touring holiday around the Kingdoms of Westeros.

Winter is coming…

With many scenes from the award-winning HBO series Game of Thrones® filmed in Northern Ireland, Bunk Campers have put together the ultimate Game of Thrones® Driving Route around Northern Ireland’s Seven Kingdoms. Forget about over-priced guided tours and rushing from one filming location to another. In the land of the coveted Iron Throne, take the time and flexibility to discover all Game of Thrones® filming locations. Hire a campervan in Northern Ireland as your transport and accommodation, giving you a unique way to explore Game of Thrones territory at your leisure.

At Bunk Campers, we have 8 different campervans and motorhomes to suit all tastes and budgets. All our campers come fully equipped with heating, electricity, cooking and sleeping facilities. Choose the campervan that best suits your needs from our Belfast depot, located 20 minutes away from Belfast City Airport, and follow this 7-day journey around the beautiful scenery of Northern Ireland and Game of Thrones filming locations.

  • Day 1: Stark of Winterfell

Bunk Campers Belfast Depot – Rowallane Gardens – Inch Abbey – Quoile River – Audley’s Field & Castle – Castle Ward – Delamont Country Park (63 km)

Your quest begins at Bunk Campers Belfast depot where you set off with the Game of Thrones® soundtrack on as you drive southwards to visit Robb Stark’s camp in Rowallane Gardens. Afterwards, relive the Red Wedding at the stunning Inch Abbey and explore the Riverlands of the House of Tully. Park up at Castle Ward – the set of Winterfell – and enjoy a day of outdoor activities in true Winterfell style. Hike or cycle along Robb’s Trail or try an archery experience in the House Stark’s courtyard. At sunset, break away from the world by taking a stroll along the tranquil Temple Water.

Only 20 minutes away, spend the night at Delamont Country Park where you can enjoy up to 30% discount with Bunk Campers free Camping and Caravanning Club membership discounts.

  • Days 2 & 3: Targaryen & The White Walkers

Tollymore Forest Park – Annalong Holiday Park – Leitrim Lodge – Kilbroney Caravan Park (92 km)

Cook breakfast in your camper before heading towards the scenic Tollymore. Explore this 630-hectare haunted forest with gothic gates where we first saw the White Walkers and the Starks found the direwolf pups – home of the lands around Winterfell. From the peaceful path along the Shimna river to the action-packed Mountain Trail, walk along one of the four trails suitable for all visitors. Admire bluebell-cloaked woodlands, rocky outcrops, cedar avenues, waterfalls, stone bridges and mysterious caves. At night, cosy up in your camper at Annalong Holiday Park with on board heating to rebuild your strength for the next adventure.

In the morning, drive to Leitrim Lodge, located at the foot of the stunning Mourne Mountains to find the location of the lands North of Winterfell. Then head to the nearby Kilbroney Caravan Park, cook a feast in your camper, dine under the stars as a nomadic Dothraki and wonder at the beautiful views of Carlingford Lough.

  • Day 4: Home of the Iron Throne

Titanic Quarter – Dundonald Campsite (132 km)

After a relaxing breakfast in the picturesque surroundings of Carlingford Lough, head back to Belfast. Although you can’t access the Game of Thrones® main studios located at the Titanic Quarter, this regenerated area of Belfast’s harbour is a must-see destination in any Game of Thrones® itinerary. The ‘Paint Hall’ as it was originally called was the old hanger for the painting of the many ships and boats built in Belfast’s harbour. Now it plays host to Titanic Studios, the set of most of the interior scenes of Game of Thrones®.

While you’re here, stop off and visit Titanic Belfast, voted the world’s leading Tourist Attraction to find out more about the world’s most (in)famous ship!

After a tour around Belfast’s Titanic Quarter, drive towards Dundonald campsite and prepare for some of the most idyllic areas of Northern Ireland, all shown in Game of Thrones®. Get your tablet or phone out and refresh your memory on your favourite episode, play Game of Thrones® board games or relax with some incredible food and drink from Northern Ireland’s award winning food and drink suppliers. All before drifting off to sleep in your comfy campervan bed.

  • Days 5 & 6: Westeros & Baratheon

Ballycarry – Cairncastle – Shillanagovy Valley – Glens of Antrim – Cushendun Caves – Murlough Bay – Ballycastle – Larrybane Head – Ballintoy Harbour – Ballyness Caravan Park – Dunluce Caslte – Downhill Beach – Moorbrook Lodge (182 km)

Set to a backdrop of stunning beauty, the Causeway Coastal Route hosts many Game of Thrones® filming locations. Enjoy a scenic drive from Ballycarry to Ballintoy Harbour, from Winterfell to the Iron Islands. Cross the Wall, explore Melissandre’s mystical caves and visit Storm’s End with the staggering Carrick-A-Rede bridge as background. With a campervan, you can explore all the Game of Thrones® locations at your own pace.

After spending the night at Ballyness Caravan Park, pass by the legendary Giant’s Causeway and step into Greyjoy and Baratheon territories. Rising from the North Atlantic coastline, the ruins of the Dunluce Castle and the awe-inspiring Mussenen Temple are the keystones of the Houses Greyjoy and Baratheon, respectively. Finally, relax at Moorbrook Lodge campsite and get ready for the last stage of your Game of Thrones® journey.

  • Day 7: The King's Road

The Dark Hedges – Moneyglass – Bunk Campers (167 km)

    Grande

Get on the road early to make the most from the last hours of your Westeros adventure. Follow Arya Stark’s footsteps by visiting the Dark Hedges, one of the most iconic sights (and sites) in Game of Thrones® and Northern Ireland (please note, the road is for pedestrians only, all vehicles are barred from driving down the route). Stopping by Moneyglass, where Arya discovered that her family had been revengefully executed.

Finally, join the Hand’s Tournament in the very same spot that the filming took place before leaving the Game of Thrones®’ fantasy world before returning to the Bunk Campers’ depot.

With our transfer service, we’ll take you back into Belfast and you can plan your next campervan adventure, taking in even more Game of Thrones® sites!
