Stephen’s story: A luxury spa break or a trip around Ireland by Campervan!

At the beach

Stephen, from Belfast recently hired the Nomad VW Camper from our Belfast depot for a tour around Ireland. We asked him some questions about his trip. Find out how he got on…

I offered my wife the choice of a luxury golf and spa break in Ireland or a trip in a campervan..
Calling my bluff she plumped for the break in a campervan! We booked with Bunk Campers and collected the Nomad from Belfast in the sunshine and headed South West to Dingle!

Our VW Camper, the Nomad
The Nomad was ideal for us, compact and economical. My wife and I shared the driving, some 900 miles in 4 days covering the West coast of Ireland through counties Kerry, Clare, Mayo, Sligo,  Donegal and Antrim. The Volkswagen camper gave us a great driving experience and handled both the big and the small roads in Ireland easily.

Tea, coffee and cooking in our camper
As regards the cooking, we ate in the camper twice in the evenings, the first night we had Chilli and rice with a nice bottle of red wine. We also had light lunches in the camper such as salads etc and had tea and coffee on several occasions! The cooker was good and we were able to store the food in the fridge when we set off, again this worked well. The other 2 nights we treated ourselves and ate out at a local restaurant!

A good nights sleep
Sleeping in the camper was fine. As there was only 2 of us, we didn’t use the roof bed at all – we didn’t need it. The main bed was very comfortable and fairly straightforward to set up. The mattress was very good and we slept well all holiday.

900 miles of excellent countryside!
Apart from traveling (900 miles in 4 days) we didn’t spend much other leisure time in the camper other than for the 2 evening meals. The weather was quite good and we wanted to walk quite a bit given the excellent surrounding countryside we were in.

The Bunk Campers experience..
Initially Leanne and Mark on the day of collection and returning were very helpful. Everything went smoothly and really not much I could suggest to improve upon. We had a problem with water leaking from the water container but I called Mark at head office to discuss this and he suggested a small connector would sort out that problem! Overall Bunk Campers was a good experience!
