3 Family-friendly campsites for your 2022 UK motorhome holiday

A woman embracing the great outdoors on her motorhome holiday

Campsites come in all shapes and sizes: Whether you prefer your camp-site large or small, lively or basic, beachy or rural, the UK is packed with wonderful, family-friendly spots to pitch up and relax in the great outdoors.

Siobhain Archer (@fiveonhols), author of the popular family travel blog is a seasoned traveller, touring the world with her husband and 3 kids. Already familiar with UK road trips in their trusty VW camper, the family traded up to Bunk Campers’ Grande 6 berth motorhome for a 7 Day UK family motorhome holiday.

After touring some of the UK’s hidden gems including Wales, Somerset, Shropshire, and more. Read more as The Five on Hols family tap into their wealth of camping experience to guide us through their favourite UK family-friendly campsites, just waiting to be explored!

1. Hillend Camping, Gower Peninsula, Wales

We loved the laid-back Hillend Camping Park behind the sand dunes of award-winning Rhossili Bay. The beach is a huge draw of course, especially for surfer-dudes, but the vibe is relaxed, old-school, well-managed and well-behaved camping. The on-site Eddy’s Café must be a contender for the best terrace view in Wales, there’s a play area, lots of space to fly a kite and fabulous coast path walks on the doorstep.  Go for fire-pits in the evening, exploring the dunes, maze tag on the beach, beginner-level surfing and walks from the site along the coast path.

2. Longthorns Farm, Dorset

Longthorns Farm is is another well-loved and carefully thought-through site, perfect for campervans and motorhomes. It’s spacious and is surrounded by woods especially suited for exploring and den-making. We particularly enjoyed visiting Monkey World next door and hops to nearby Studland Bay. And the highlight?  Taking an alpaca for a walk.  No contest!

3. Stoke Barton Farm, Hartland Peninsula, Devon

A traditional farm camp-site, friendly Stoke Barton Farm has a rare sense of quiet and peace. Possibly because the Hartland peninsula feels quite remote, when you arrive it’s hard to imagine being back in the real world! We loved walking to the fabulous pub at Hartland Quay for a drink and a quick dip at sunset, flying the kite, exploring the coast path walks, and popping to nearby Bideford, Widemouth and Westward Ho for horse-riding, surfing and general beach-lounging.
